FLV File Plugin for Windows Media Player

Windows Media Plyer
So today I managed to find the latest episode of one of my favorite Sci Fi programes on Youtube.com only to find that when I downloaded the streaming file with KeepVid it was an FLV file.
FLV files seem to have become the most common format of Flash files used for medium quality streaming videos like Youtube.com.
Most people who use the Windows OS (myself included) are very used to using Windows’ built-in media player, Widows Media Player.
To get windows media player to play DIVX avi files you need to download and install codecs, a topic which I have covered previously. See the following:
DIVX Codecs for Windows 98/ME/XP/Vista & Mac OS
But what do you need to play FLV files? - So today I decided to go and find the answer.
First you need to download and install the K-Lite Codec Pack. After installing the pack some versions of Windows may require you to restart your system, so bookmark this site now just incase.
What this codec pack does is simply allows Windows Media Player to play FLV files on the fly. I tested this on Windows Vista Home Ultimate & Windows Media Plyer 9.0.
If this doesn’t work, there is an alternative. You can download the Applian FLV Player for windows. And use that application instead of WMP.
